ROUND FIVE - Saturday May 20, 2006  FOOTY RESUMES AFTER MINING DISASTER

Footy resumed in the NAFL on Saturday after a week off because of the Gladstone mine disaster. A big crowd gathered at Wilmington, hoping Southern Flinders could give BMW a run for its money. Given the emotions of the past fortnight, it was no surprise that BMW proved too good, winning by 74 points 16.19 to 6.5.
The other two games in the round were close affairs, Crystal Brook sneaking home against Orroroo by eight points (15.10 to 13.14), with Craig Young named best. For Orroroo Matt Dignan kicked five with James Reddaway its best player.
At Mundoora, Jamestown-Peterborough won its first game, causing the upset of the season beating the Eagles by nine points (12.11 to 10.14) with Peter Francis kicking eight goals.

ORROROO, BMW and BROUGHTON MUNDOORA OPEN SEASON WITH SOLID WINS

Orroroo started the season off in fine style with a comfortable 57 point win at home over Jamestown-Peterborough. Matt Dignan was best afield kicking five goals, with Tim Rosenberg dangerous up forward snaring four. Sam Redden was best for Jamestown-Peterborough. At Crystal Brook, BMW were too good winning by 47 points, thanks dominant first half (9.7 to 2.7). Crystal Brook managed seven goals in the final term, with Ryan Arbon its best player. Kendrick McCullum was best afield for BMW.

At Laura, Broughton Mundoora were too good for Southern Flinders. After a close first half, Broughton Mundoora pulled away, with Avan Ireland snaring six goals. Matt Keely had a good day up forward for Southern kicking five, while Nathan Cunningham was judged his teams' best player.
