COUGARS AND ROOSTERS HAVE BIG WINS HEADING INTO THE FINALS

Sunday August 19, 2007

In an interesting final week of the home and away season, Bute and the Central Yorke Cougars both scored impressive wins over much more fancied rivals.

At Bute, the Roosters proved too good for top side Kadina, winning by 34 points. After a slow first term (1.3 to 2.3) Bute kicked 5.3 to 2.0 to hold a 14 point advantage a half time. In the second half, Bute (5.6 to 5.2) eased away slightly to score an impressive victory. Ben Adams was best for the homeside, sadly for them though they are in fourth spot, due to percentage

At Pasky, in a big upset, the Cougars thrashed Paskeville by 73 points. They managed to hold the Magpies goalless in the second term while adding 6.4 themselves, leading at half time 11.6 to 2.4. Ryan Byrne was on fire kicking seven goals, with Ben Gunning kicking four and Greg Dyett three. Adam Schulz and Brad Vassal played well for the Cougars, while Todd Price and Leighton Wilksch was best for Paskeville.

Wallaroo managed to record their first victory of the season, having a win at home over Moonta by 49 points. Reece Page and Shane Dunstan were best for the Bulldogs, while for Moonta Will Sansbury and Trevor Harradine were their best.

At Minlaton, the Crows finished the season in style with a ten goal win over Ardrossan. Michael Cook and Mail Medal favourite Troy Clements were best for CMS, while for Ardrossan, Scott Teakle and Malcolm Errington were their best.

This week, Paskeville and the Central Yorke Cougars meet in the Qualifying Final at Ardrossan, while Bute and the Southern Eagles play at Moonta in the knockout Elimination Final.

BUTE DRAWS AT MAITLAND AS BATTLE FOR THIRD CONTINUES.....Monday August 13, 2007

The battle for third spot continues to hot up after a draw at Maitland, between the Cougars and Bute. The homeside led for much of the game until Bute hit the lead in the last term. A free kick in front of goal to the Cougars late in the game saw the scores leveled and the Premiership points shared. The draw keeps Central Yorke in third spot on percentage, but their form continues to be a worry, having gone winless in the past three games. Best for the Cougars was Andrew Parsons and Damien Adams, with youngster Max Daniel kicking three goals. For Bute, Sam Trengove and Ben Adams were best, Haydn Cock kicking four goals to now have 73 - the goalkicking trophy all but wrapped up for the Bute forward.

Top side Kadina were far too good at home for the fifth placed Southern Eagles, winning by 77 points. Daniel Girdham was best for the Bloods’ with six goals. Kadina has stitched up the minor flag, while despite the loss, the Eagles are all but certain of holding fifth place.

Paskeville is now certain of finishing in second spot, after their massive win at Ardrossan. An injury to Boyd Kenny though a considerable blow to the Magpies Premiership hopes.

While the Crows are finishing 2007 in good form, winning at Moonta by 83 points. Troy Clements (6 goals) and Sam Mumford were best for them in their fifth win of the season.

This week in the final round of the home and away season, Bute has win at home against Kadina to try and pinch third spot from the Cougars who visit the Magpies at Paskeville. Wallaroo host Moonta, in a bid to win their only game of the season, while the Crows play Ardrossan at Minlaton.

KADINA  ENSURES TOP SPOT….COUGARS LOSE AGAIN

The Bloods continued their fine form with a 34 point win over the Crows at Kadina. Josh Lawson and Daniel Girdham (four goals) were best while for the Crows, Troy Clements was best and would have to be a chance to clinch another Mail Medal. The win all but stitches up the minor flag, with two games to play in the minor round.

At Yorketown, the Southern Eagles upset the Cougars by 12 points, for the Cougars it was the second loss in the a row and jeopardizes their chances of staying in the top three. Jon Coombe was best for the Eagles, while for the Cougars, youngster Max Daniel featured up forward kicking five goals.

At Bute, the Roosters accounted for Moonta by 87 points, all but ending any chance the Demons had of making the finals. Haydn Cock kicked nine goals while Josh Pearce snared six.

At Pasky, the Magpies went a game clear in second spot with a massive 145 point win over Wallaroo.

Next week in the second last game of the minor round, Kadina hosts the Southern Eagles,  Paskeville visits Ardrossan,  the Crows travel to Moonta while in the match of the round, the Cougars play Bute at Maitland, a game which could decide who could get the double chance.

Round 12......NO UPSETS, BUT SOME TOP TEAMS PUSHED.....Tuesday July 10, 2007

There were no shock results in the YPFL in Round 12, but a couple of teams had to work hard to shake off their opponents. At Wallaroo, the Bulldogs gave Bute a run for their money in the first half, trailing by just seven points at the main break. The Roosters eased away to a 15 point lead at three quarter time, before putting the foot down in the last term adding 6.3 to nothing to win by 54 points. Sam Trengove and Pat Cannane were best for Bute, with Haydn Cock kicking three goals to now have 56 for the season. For Wallaroo, Matthew Grillett and Lindsay Smith were best in what was arguably the Bulldogs best effort for the season.

At Maitland, the Cougars and Crows were tied away at half time, the homeside lucky to be on level terms given the Crows inaccurate kicking (2.9). In the third term, the Cougars came out running, adding 5.1 to 2.3 and went on with the job in the final quarter adding 4.3 to 3.1 to gain the vital premiership points by a margin of four goals. Damien Adams and Shaun Hasting were best for the Cougars while for the Crows, Troy Clements was best for the umpteenth time.

At Edithburg, an upset loomed at half time with Ardrossan leading the Eagles by 16 points. The Roos wasted their chances in the third term, adding 1.10 to 3.2 and ran out of gas in the last quarter, not scoring while the Eagles added 3.8 to win by 14 points. Scott Teakle and Luke Carter were best for a valiant Ardrossan, with Sam Barlow and Lyndon Mason best for the Eagles, who are now assured a spot in the finals. Ardrossan would be heartened by their effort given Anton Gerardis' absence through injury. He is likely to miss another four weeks.

Top side Kadina powered to a convincing 79 point win over Moonta. David Westbrook (three goals) was best for the Bloods, while Josh Willis kicked six goals. Will Sansbury and Ben Talbot were best for Moonta.

This week, Ardrossan meet Wallaroo to decide who will get the wooden spoon, Kadina and Paskeville do battle in what should be the match of the round, Bute host the CMS Crows, while Moonta plays the Eagles, with the Cougars having the bye.

RESULTS AS EXPECTED IN ROUND ELEVEN.......Monday July 2, 2007

It was another weekend where the results panned out pretty much as expected. At Ardrossan, Kadina swamped the homeside in the first term adding 7.3 to 2.0, to set up a 110 point victory. Josh Willis was best for the Bloodhounds with six goals, while Brad Farley (three goals) and Cameron March also played well. For Ardrossan, it was a tough day at the office with Scott Teakle (two goals), Simon Wheare and Ben Davey in the better players.

At Maitland it was one way traffic for the Cougars, as they disposed of Wallaroo by 143 points. They were never challenged as they powered away to their seventh win of the season. Ryan Byrne was on fire kicking seven goals, while youngster Max Daniel kicked four. Reece Page and Lindsay Smith tried hard for the Bulldogs.

At Edithburg, Bute defeated the Southern Eagles by 38 points. Shane Slade and Ben Adams were in the better players for the Roosters, with Haydn Cock kicking three goals to take his season’s tally to 53. For the Eagles, the familiar names of skipper Jon Coombe and Jacob Selfe appeared at the top of the best player list.

At Pasky, the Magpies were far too good for Moonta winning by 110 points. Andrew Crowell had a day out kicking ten goals, Brad Price kicked six with Boyd Kenny named best.

This week, it could be a similar story as far as results are concerned with red hot favourites in the four games. Wallaroo travels to Bute seeking its first win, Kadina hosts Moonta in the Cousin Jack derby, Ardrossan travels to Edithburg to play the Southern Eagles while the Cougars host last years Premiers’ the Crows

Round Ten.....NO SURPRISES in ROUND TEN……Monday June 24, 2007

The four games in the YPFL went as expected, with wins to Paskeville, Southern Eagles, Bute and the Cougars.

At Stansbury, the Magpies caught the Crows on the hop early, adding 4.4 to 0.1 in the first term. They extended that lead to 41 points at half time and despite losing the second half recorded a comfortable 28 point win.  Dylan Beinke and Sam Daniel were best for Pasky, with Damien Bennett and Troy Clements in the best for the Crows.

After two losses on the trot, the Southern Eagles returned to the winners list with a 140 point win over Wallaroo. It was big percentage booster, with Trent Hayes kicking seven, with the Bulldogs being held goalless in the first half.

After a tight first half (6.7 to 5.2) Bute blew Ardrossan away in the third term, adding 6.6 to 0.1. After a quiet game last week against Kadina, Haydn Cock was on fire kicking eleven goals to take his seasons tally to 50.

Finally at Moonta, the Cougars were too good for the Demons, winning by 40 points. Brad Vassal was best with George Davies (four goals) also in good form.

This week, Bute meets the Southern Eagles at Edithburg  in what should be the match of the round. Ardrossan hosts Kadina, Paskeville plays Moonta in what should be a good game, while the Cougars hosts Wallaroo in what will be a percentage booster.

Kadina blows away Bute, Paskeville took smart for the Cougars, Crows and Demons win….Monday June 18, 2007

Kadina continues to show their authority in the YPFL after a 86 point win over Bute on Saturday. After a tight first half, the Bloods took over and are now a game clear in top spot. David Westbrook and Josh Lawson were best, while Josh Willis kicked seven goals. It was a disappointing result for Bute who has now dropped to fifth spot having lost its past two games.

At Maitland, the Magpies proved too smart for the Cougars winning by 31 points to move into a share of second spot. After a tight first half, the Magpies added five goals to one in the third to seal the issue. Stuart Daniel and Dylan Beinke were best for the Magpies, with Brad Price (five goals), Ryan Price (three) and coach Ben Watkins (three) all getting into the act  in front of goal.

At Ardrossan, the Roos and Crows were neck and neck for most of the day, the last quarter the difference in the end, with the Crows adding 4.6 to 2.0 to win by 31 points. Ex-Norwood players Scott Carslake and Troy Clements were best for the 2006 Premiers, while Scott Teakle and Ben Davey played well for Ardrossan. It was the Crows second win of the year, a much needed one for the club.

At Moonta, as expected the Demons thrashed Wallaroo by 148 points. After a relatively close first term, Moonta powered away to record their fourth win of the season, to be a game and percentage out of the five.

This week, Moonta has a chance to sneak into the five as they host the Cougars, Wallaroo and the Southern Eagles meet, Bute should return to the winners list against Ardrossan while the Crows and Magpies meet at Stansbury in a Grand Final re-match.
